Air Fryer Popcorn Shrimp – The Perfect Snack or Game Day Appetizer

0

If you need a quick, easy, and fun appetizer this Air Fryer Popcorn Shrimp is the one for you! It takes just a few minutes to prepare and is so easy to make. The only problem with this appetizer….. it gets devoured almost as fast as it can be made!!!

So, just how easy is it to make Air Fryer Popcorn Shrimp??

The hardest part of this popcorn shrimp recipe is defrosting and peeling the shrimp. We’ve found the best way to peel frozen shrimp (that’s pretty much the only way we buy it) is to place them in a bowl and run warm water over them. They will be defrosted in about 10 minutes.

NOTE: If the shrimp has that “shrimpy” smell, follow these easy steps. 1. peel and clean shrimp if needed. 2. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon salt on the shrimp and stir for one minute. 3. Rinse well and repeat steps two additional times. Click here for detailed steps. This works every time!!!!!

Next step for the Air fryer popcorn shrimp is to mix all the ingredients. . .except for the shrimp. Mix together in a food processor – Panko, Corn Flakes, Garlic Powder, Salt, Black Pepper, Cayenne Pepper and  Corn Starch.

I like to dry the popcorn shrimp with a paper towel to get the excess water off. Then toss the popcorn shrimp in the panko/corn flake mixture

After coating the shrimp in the panko mixture place them on the air fryer basket. Make sure to spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. This keeps the shrimp from sticking. Do not over crowd the popcorn shrimp in the basket. Also, spray the shrimp with the olive oil cooking spray. (We use olive oil cooking spray because it adds a nice flavor but any cooking spray can be used.)

Air Fry the popcorn shrimp at 400 degrees for 6 minutes. Then flip them and lightly spray them with additional spray. The cooking spray helps the shrimp to get nice and crispy. After flipping the shrimp cook them for an additional 6 minutes. Check to see if the shrimp have browned and are nice crispy. If need be, air fry for 2 additional minutes. Remember all air fryers are a little different so it make take a few less, or additional, minutes to cook.

Serve with your favorite cocktail!!!

Enjoy!!
